Narrated from third party and through both main characters' thoughts, and made easy to differentiate through the use of either plain text or italics. A Long Dark Rainbow makes use of concepts of history, time, religion, sexuality, and societal norms to tell the story of former Art college student who is now in his senior age, Alex James, who despite being a heatrob in earlier years has never gotten married. This book gives personal, intimate and explicit details of the affair between James and his new love, Samantha Reagan.

Through the lives that have been affected by societal norms and gender roles in the book you get the urge to re-evaluate things and understand why freedom of free self expression is priceless and irreplaceable. Connecting with the characters and their different life stories and truth might inspire some positive changes in individuals who wish things might have had better outcomes for the book characters. Also the way in which it encourages the reader to explores ways of making sex and relationships more meaningful and exciting.

I have zero complaints. A Long Dark Rainbow is as an adult themed Romantic novel should be. With a bit of love, romance, drama, mystery and course secrets. It is only the strong language and curse words that I think might throw some people off.

I rate this book a deserving 4 stars out of 4, eventhough it has some strong sexual scenes and language, author Michael Tappenden, has a way of reasoning with the reader on how society has changed, allowing more freedom of self expression and making topics of such, more acceptable and less alarming. Apart from that, for readers who do not mind this, there's loads to be appreciated in the book!

A Long Dark Rainbow is a simple and mature take of a love story that promises a solid chance of appealing to open minded adults. And adults who might need help with their love and sex lives. Would however definitely not suggest it for anyone below the age of 18 or anyone who's uncomfortable with the use of strong and explicit language.
