We Are Voulhire by Matthew Tysz is a novel set in a fantasy land called Voulhire.
There's always a tiny bit of fear in me when starting a fantasy novel for fear that the author will not explain the world in a way that's understandable. But once you start them and understand them, it's the best feeling ever. And that was precisely the case with this novel as well. The author does a fabulous job of introducing you to the world as well as to the characters. This is mainly due to the author having a great writing style that takes things slower, and therefore, it is much more understandable. The author definitely put a lot of time into thinking and crafting this world.

The novel already begins with a great scene, kicking off with a fight scene and one that's very well-written and imaginative, so it captures your attention immediately. The world the author introduces us to is a very rich, well-thought-out world that has a unique history to back it up. The story is told through multiple perspectives, which is great since it allows you to see many things, at once, that are happening in the kingdom of Voulhire, making it a very compelling story. There are also great political matters going on in Voulhire that are engaging and run deep.

Once we're introduced to the protagonist, Galen, we find a very kind-hearted young man. He's a very relatable person and one you can easily see eye to eye with. He's just a boy who's trying to grow up in a world that's filled with dangers and questionable people. People you don't know whether or not you can trust.
I also loved the secondary characters, mainly Meldorath, who is a complex character whose powers are hard to understand yet exciting to find out more about.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can definitely say with confidence that I didn't find any problems with it that would cause me to rate it lower. So, I have decided to rate it four out of four stars.

I would like to go on recommending this book to people who like fantasy novels with rich history, with characters that are just trying to grow up in a dangerous world. This is only the first book in the series, so I'm more than excited to see what will become of the characters that managed to become so dear to my heart. To all the people out there who love fantasy novels, I can't see you not enjoying this one.

It sounds like not only is it a well-described world, but the characters are richly developed as well. It makes the book very appealing. Thanks for your wonderful review!

I have recently read the book and completely agree with you. This first book is perfect to lure readers into the series and I sure had a blast reading it and getting to better understand the complex world Voulhire is. You did a great job describing it. Thank you for the excellent review!

Welcome to the series. Galen is a likable lad who doesn't let his tragic past affect his mindset. BTW, that's a unique username you have there :D.

I like complex characters. If you can figure them out too early, then the story seems predictable. Thanks for your wonderful review.
