[Following is a volunteer review of "Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat" by R.F. Kristi.]
The family tree of Inca has Cara, Fromage, Charlotte, the Humanoid Mom, and Aunt Florence. It’s a happy family, but apart from the family engagements, Inca is the head of a detective agency composed of cats. Inca is a Siberian cat that has made a name for herself and her agency in London, England, and her fame is fast spreading in France. At the beginning of the book, R.F. Kristi, in the book Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat, unveiled Inca and her family on a vacation in Sri Lanka. The sweet vacation seemed to be interrupted by the disappearance of a heritage sword from a museum in Colombo. Inca and company are left to find the culprit. How will Inca and company recover the stolen sword?
Like in other children’s books, the author has particularly emphasized details that will engage young readers. The author also presented the story in a friendly language. It is also easy to read the book as the choice of words and grammatical construction are simplified. The descriptions of the cats’ activities and the vacation were vivid and imaginative. I love the author’s storyline, as it presents to children the life of a detective, but in a language they can understand.
The author wrote with children as the audience in mind. Relatively, the book is very suitable as the logic and hidden details are reduced for young readers. An adult reader might find it amusing, but it’s a perfect pick for a young reader. Relatively, I hate nothing about the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because the author wrote it in a way that suits the intended audience. The author also added images that could help the young reader understand the author’s storyline.
I recommend this book to very young readers. I also recommend it to parents and teachers of children in the early years of reading.
