Review of Rescuing General Patton
[Following is a volunteer review of "Rescuing General Patton" by Curtis Stephen Burdick.]
Rescuing General Patton by Curtis Stephen Burdick is a fictional novel mixed with true historical events that happened in World War Two. The story begins when Julia Patton, General Patton's granddaughter, meets and peeks the interest of retired US army major/writer John Harding, who researches and writes about untold historical events that happened in the war. She gives him classified documents about her grandfather, General Patton, and asks him to unfold the story behind them. The book is an action-filled thriller about the suicide mission that Colonel Eisenhower ordered to be performed to save General Patton from German capture in World War Two. The mission was highly classified and was kept secret from the chief of staff of the army, General Gorge C. Marshall, and President Franklin Roosevelt himself, with only a few people knowing about it. There were no medals, commendations, or ribbons rewarded for the success of the mission.
What I appreciated about the novel was how the author made the effort to tell the stories and give credit to heroes that were not acknowledged throughout the years. He also contributed to informing the families of the soldiers that died to ensure the success of the mission. I also enjoyed how full of action and suspense the story was. It could be turned into a blockbuster movie. Also, the strength of the characters is highly comandable, and the fact that they were based on real people is astonishing. How could they have that kind of ground and the courage to stand it off?
There wasn't much that I didn't like about the book. From the start of the story to its end, it was very entertaining. Even though the story was told a second time, I think the author has done a good job of adding and keeping certain information to not mess with the overall flow of the book.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 4. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, wondering whether the mission would be a success or not. It was very enticing and had a strong core. I enjoyed it very much. Also, the editing was exceptionally well done since there were no mistakes.
I would recommend this book to any reader who loves thrillers and enjoys suspense. It's an action-filled book. However, it does contain a decent amount of severe profanity. So it might not be suitable for young readers.
