Hattie Vavaseur is an elderly, strong-willed woman who has no idea why she is taken to Cornwall, England, to stay in a mysterious mansion after attending a funeral. The master of the house seems to be just as mysterious as the home, evading Hattie and proving to be quite rude upon the few occasions when he appears. Between the bustling servants, the odd décor, the absolute lack of mirrors, and the ugly pink bedroom that she is forced to stay in, Hattie grows more upset with the situation and her lack of memory. Finally, after getting unwanted help from the town's soothsayer, Hattie begins to unravel the mysteries around her and regain her memory snippets.

Can Hattie uncover the secrets swirling around her, regain her memory, and solve multiple murders? Hattie Vavaseur by M. Rebecca Wildsmith will keep you determined to find all the answers in this 1920s murder mystery. You are guaranteed an unforgettable and exciting journey filled with deceit, affairs, murder, and humor.

I was completely enraptured with this book and found it hard to stop reading once I started. The mysteries that slowly allowed the truth to come to light and M. Rebecca Wildsmith's way of telling the story as if I were there in the 1920s along with the characters, gave me a sense of belonging. I loved the supernatural slow-burning build-up of the story that left you craving more without getting bored. The author's humor gives you a pleasant break without taking away the air of mystery and thrill of the story.

There wasn't anything I did not like about this book. It was very well-edited, and I did not notice any grammatical errors. The author carefully chose language from the 1920s era to make it seem like she lived during that time while writing the book. I was thoroughly involved with Hattie's character and was instantly drawn to the other characters. I wanted to know the answer to all the surrounding mysteries. I give this novel a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This story was one I would love to have in my collection to read again.

I recommend Hattie Vavaseur to anyone who loves a good clean mystery without foul language or sexual situations. If you love a supernatural mystery, then this is perfect for you.
