[Following is a volunteer review of "Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life" by Lewis Kempfer.]

Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer relates the author's story growing up in an abusive home. The story begins with the author being chained up, possibly in a sexual manner, while being high on drugs. We see him praying to whomever will listen, to rescue him from this situation. As the story continues, he explained his life and how he got to this embarrassing and emotional point. This is a memoir like no other. It is gritty, humorous, and candid while also filled with emotions.

I liked the humorous way the author shared his story. While some of the things that happened to him warranted pity, one can't help but laugh because of the way the author delivered the content. He truly has a knack for storytelling. His experiences of church and church events will have his readers laughing for days. There was one instance when the congregation was singing 'Bringing in the sheaves' but the author, in his curious nine-year-old mind, was wondering why they were singing about bringing in the cheese and who was always leaving it outside. With all humor aside, this book showcases how young men who don't have positive role models find it hard to traverse life. The author's father and stepfather were not caring persons, so he yearned to feel loved. This led him to seek love in any place and anyone who crossed his path.

There was not a single thing to dislike about the book. The author was candid about his life experiences and some sex scenes were explicitly described. Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life was truly a masterpiece. Since the author enjoyed writing from a tender age, his memoir flowed smoothly. It was easy to read and quite immersive. I found it hard to believe that one human being could survive so many traumatic episodes.

This book no doubt deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It was professionally edited, and I found only one minor error throughout the entire piece. My favorite part of the book was part one where the author explained what it was like growing up in the nineties when technology was scarce.

I would definitely recommend this book to fathers. It is very important that you pay attention to your kids, especially young boys. Show them that you love and care for them and be the person they can look up to and trust. I would also recommend this book to persons who enjoy reading candid memoirs. However, if you are triggered by gay sex scenes, this is not the book for you.
