Review of Seeing with Fresh Eyes
The book, Seeing with Fresh Eyes by John W. Bullock is a religious book dealing with the history of a man from his creation, his fall and also God's plan for redemption through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the reason for the birth of Christianity. There is no need to search for proofs of truth or power in miracles instead believe in God, know Him and comprehend the power of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The author talks about his growing up in a bible based church but he did not really understand the gospel. Due to an inspiration of a man who preached the gospel unashamedly, he decided to read the whole bible. He studied it with a lot of questions of which some he kept them to himself and called them faith. He also suggests that those questions are good when studying the bible.
The author says that Jesus was with the Father during the fall of man and they made a plan for the redemption of man. He views the bible as more than just a narrative or a rule book. The author also gives a clearer understanding about God, who He is, His work of creation and also His names. God is a loving God. He is good, compassionate and loving. He warned Adam against eating a fruit in the middle of the garden. He was warning them as a parent through love that eating the fruit will only hurt them. Even after Adam and Eve disobeyed, God came to them as a parent still and not as an offended king. Through that disobedience, man sinned and the penalty of sin is death but God through love took the form of Jesus and came into the world as a creature to save mankind.
What I love most about the book is the author's words of encouragement which involves motivational speaking. He has great ability to relate spiritual things to natural things and has made many scriptural quotations which has greatly enhanced the understanding of the book. I love how he used real life experiences as examples and also the detailed explanations which also made the book more interesting. He has done a wide research on theological information and relates the fall of man and being enslaved to sin to people who were enslaved in America. The author has also included the discussion questions to better the understanding of what have been learned and also recommends some other materials for further studies.
What I disliked about the book is the part where interviews were done to people who were enslaved on the day of freedom. This is because the language is kind of slang and it destroyed the flow of the story as the slang is hard to understand fast and it is also full of grammatical errors. However, excluding the interview part, I only found one typing error which made the book great.
I rate the book four out of four stars. This is because the book is so educative. It helps the reader to know God better. It has very few grammatical errors and also does not have sexual content or the use of any vulgar language. The book is so interesting as well.
The book is good for spiritual nourishment. I can also recommend it to those who want to learn theology. It can also be used by preachers in preparation for a sermon.
