[Following is a volunteer review of "NADEEM'S JOURNEY" by Sherine Anniruth.]
It's been a while since I wept a little while reading a book and today was the day that I wept again while reading this book. Nadeem's Journey by Sherine Anniruth is a brave and emotional book about a mother and a son's struggle with cancer.
The story begins with Nadeem. A little kid who is loved by his mother and all their relatives and friends. Nadeem was the kind of kid that can be a role model for many. He was good at sports from an early age, he studied hard and aced in all the subjects, he was the captain of his sports team and president of his school. He was awarded many trophies and certificates for all his achievements. And finally he finished civil engineering and landed a job which made his whole family proud. Everything was going really well for Nadeem and his family, but it all went downhill when Nadeem turned 25. One day he came up to his mama and told her that he's not feeling well and his stomach hurts. They went to the doctor and this thing went on for quite some time until they figured out that he has cancer. All his family and friends were shocked by this news and got very sad because of it. This book is a journey of nadeem's life and how he, with his family and friends, fought cancer.
The thing that I liked about this book was it's storytelling style. The author has done a great job starting the story from Nadeem's birth till his last breath. Everything was in an even flow which made the book easy to read and dive into the story even better. Another thing would be the love that is portrayed between the mother and the son. It was heart touching and in some scenes it really made my eyes wet. And I'm not a very emotional person, so you can guess how good it is.
The mother has shown the whole journey in a very candid way without hiding anything. Unlike some authors who just hide the bad parts so that the reader would not be disturbed by it. Other than that I didn't find any grammatical mistakes or typos in it. So I can say it was very well edited too. There was no use of profane or vulgar language and there were no erotic scenes in the book either. As you would expect from a book like this. The vocabulary used by the author was very simple and easy to understand as well, as I read the book in a nice pace and my flow didn't break at all.
In the end, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, because it touched my heart and it has a loving real-life story of a mother and her son. I would recommend it to all the parents who have been through hell with these incidents happening to their children. And other then them I think everyone should read this book atleast once because it's that good.
