Terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and fear on United States soil are all things we face today. The author, Jack Winnick, shares a realistic fictional story that could actually take place today in his book The Date Farm. Lara and Uri are planning to spend some time with family, but that all gets derailed when America is faced with a mass shooting. They begin to follow leads that place them on a path to deal with the sheikh and a stolen precious metal. Eventually, they go on an undercover mission that leads to the date farm. Under the names of Nouri and Farin, they gain employment and are able to attempt to stop the evil plans of the enemy.

I really enjoy the realistic aspects of the author’s book. As readers, we are able to connect to the story with real events that happen in today’s world. The characters are developed so that we can infer their motivations and gain a deeper understanding of how they each end up in the situations they find themselves in. The editing is done extremely well and does not impede the reading of the story in any way. You can tell the author did their research as words and common practices of the Muslim culture are present in the storyline making it even more realistic. The author does an amazing job of placing the realistic with the fiction to prepare a complete story for the audience.

The only thing I disliked about this story was the realistic mass shooting. However, it was an important part of the storyline and was written extremely well. A mass shooting is a fear of my own. If graphic violence is something you are not comfortable with this might not be the book for you.

This book is the fourth book in a series. I have not read any of the other books, and at no time did I question what was happening. This book does completely stand on its own and does read well as a standalone novel. I would easily give this title a rating of four out of four stars because of the excellently written storyline. This could easily be a book you can’t put down and read all night to find out the ending.

This book is for anyone who likes stories about crime, detectives, or special forces. Anyone who enjoys a story about the journey to find justice. However, due to the graphic nature of the book, I would suggest an older audience.
