A long overdue vacation has Lonnie Bowers in Costa Rica with his family. He is under the impression that his mission in Costa Rica will not take long so he can get back to vacationing with his family. Unfortunately, everything goes wrong during his meeting with a powerful drug lord. Knowing well that if captured, he will not live to see another day, Lonnie slips away moments before the meeting site gets destroyed. Deep in the jungle, he has to find a way to get back to his family, avoid wild beasts, and finish his mission. Can he manage anything with so many odds stacked against him? Grab your copy of Without Redemption by David Griffith to find out.

Without Redemption is the third book in the Border series. However, it is possible to read it as a stand-alone book. Griffith has written it with such prowess that I enjoyed it from start to finish. My favorite part of this book is the suspense brought about by its many twists. I like the unpredictability. I also like the narration of the story. Griffith uses two main characters to tell the story. The two points of view complement one another beautifully.

The plot is solid, as I did not notice any plot holes. The progression from one scene to another is seamless, especially during a switch from one point of view to the other. The tale resolves well in the end. I like the epilogue for its uniqueness. I have not seen one that uses news excerpts in that manner before. Character development is sufficient for both main and secondary characters.

I also enjoyed the vivid descriptions of scenes, emotions, and people. Griffith’s storytelling capabilities are good. He has used backstory, relevant hooks, humor, and a splash of Spanish to spice up Without Redemption. The editing is superb, as I only noticed a few minor errors. There is a title duplication of chapter 28, which may confuse the reader if they pause at that point, but it is not a big issue. I did not dislike any part of this book.

I recommend Without Redemption to lovers of fiction books with adventure, vivid descriptions, and a lot of suspense. I enjoyed it immensely, and because of that, and the reasons stated above, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, or even more than I have.
