Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world today. The diagnosis can come in early or late stages. Winning the War on Cancer is a non-fiction work written by Sylvie Beljanski, discussing a whole new approach to cancer and ways to maintain healthy living. Sylvie is the daughter of Dr. Mirko Beljanski, a director of research with an impressive Ph.D. in molecular biology. He gave an alternative cure for cancer through the use of Pao pereira and Rauwolfia vomitoria instead of the normal conventional medicine approach.

Silvie felt neglected by her parents when she was a child. She believed that "those plants" that her parents catered to and studied were more loved than she was. She hated seeing the multiple sickly people that came and went from their abode. In a bit of rebellion, she wanted nothing to do with the science profession and instead went into law. Her father was set up by the French government and all his life's work was destroyed. Sylvie promises her father that she will carry on his legacy. She does this through the establishment of the Beljanski Foundation and still goes into research for the cure of cancer and other diseases.

I enjoyed reading this book because it widened my mind. As a medical student, the emphasis is usually on conventional medicine to cure all illnesses. We do not get to look into other forms of cure, but after reading this, I understood that sometimes the best answers could come from where we least expect them. These alternative medicine sectors suffer from gross underfunding, and this is more harmful than good. I loved the presentation of this book as it wasn't monotonous but was easy to read and comprehend. It was educative as well as inspiring.

There wasn't anything to dislike in this book. Instead, there were a lot of lessons passed across in this book. We need more of Sylvie's courage and perseverance in our society today. I got to understand that the power tussle in politics played out everywhere. Those at the forefront of healthcare were not left out. People should do better and be good human beings in this aspect. I only observed a minor error in this book.

This book was wonderfully written and professionally edited and deserves nothing less than four out of four stars.
I recommend this book to young people and adults interested in healthcare and healthy living. Young people have a lot to learn from this book to avoid making the mistakes made out of ignorance in the past.
