[Following is a volunteer review of "Of the Earth" by Kim Cousins.]
The story begins with a lonely puppy whose owner has just gotten murdered. The puppy meets Carl, a cat that got torn away from his family. The animals become friends and are rescued by Jim, who is on a journey to find his military friends. All around, bad things are happening, and Jim sees the need to protect these helpless animals or else they might end up being slaughtered and eaten by desperate people. In this new era, the government forces people to get chips inserted for them to be able to access essential services like healthcare. Anyone who is against this is hunted down and punished severely. Will Jim and the animals be able to make it to their destination?
This book had me tearing up at all the trials and tribulations that different people in the stories faced. Each person had suffered a loss, and all they could do was hope for a better tomorrow and continue trusting in God. Some despaired and turned their backs on everyone else, including their families. Despite all the bad things happening around them, the characters can share stories and even joke around.
I appreciated the humor incorporated into the book. Another thing that I loved about the book was the aspect of the talking animals. The animals can communicate with each other, are devoted to their owners, and will protect them at all costs. I loved the characters in the book, and I felt connected with them. The author did a great job bringing the characters to life and provided a background story of each character. These people come from different places, yet they connect and help one another in every situation. Their kindness and neighborliness were inspiring, especially during such a time when the world was in chaos.
There is no negative aspect that I found with the book. I truly believe this book will be a good read for every Christian. The stories are intriguing and had me wanting to learn more about the characters and what the future held for them under the new government, which was against their religion.
I rate Of the Earth by Kim Cousins a 4 out of 4 stars. The book has been well written and exceptionally edited. The story was remarkable, and the author did a good job describing the challenges the people faced. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading Christian fictional books. The book assures Christians and offers hope to all those going through hard times. The book will have readers laughing and crying at different scenes of the story.
