A Dream for Peace is a long memoir of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, an Algerian diplomat who had been dreaming of his beloved country's freedom since his adolescence. In his younger days, he often had to deal with racism. While the French students were highly regarded, his own efforts and achievements were usually ignored. This unfair treatment fueled his determination to help his people break free from the invaders. He became an activist and traveled around the world to gain knowledge to aid his homeland. But Algeria's liberation did not mark the end of his quest for peace. What else did he do? Who else could benefit from his mindset? Who would be his allies, and who would become his foes?

I love the relationships between the author and his comrades. Despite their different upbringings and nationalities, many of them did whatever they could do to assist the author. For example, the Vietnamese students told him what they knew about their own revolutions. In China, Mao Zedong and his people warmly shared their straightforward opinions with him. The US government took care of everything he needed during the time he was there to study microbiology. Even some of his French friends warned him about the dangers and protected him from the police.

President Houphouët-Boigny, the late leader of Côte d’Ivoire, played a special role in the author's life. With the constant and sincere support he received from this kind man, it's no wonder why the author referred to him as his father. They worked tirelessly together to help other nations solve their issues. One notable instance is their attempt to soothe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, joining hands with many countries to resolve this dispute. Additionally, several photos, letters, certificates, and documents accompany the author's stories to support his points and enhance the authenticity.

This memoir's only negative facet is probably its length. With over 600 pages, those who aren't interested in history and politics may find it a daunting challenge. Still, if you don't mind a long book, you can give it a try. I think the plot is pretty solid and easy to understand. And I only found a handful of errors, so the editing is quite good.

Since the mentioned negative aspect is not too glaring, I'm happy to rate this biography 4 out of 4 stars. If you want to make the world a better place, this book can be a great inspiration for your plans.
