[Following is a volunteer review of "Firstborn Daddyman" by Frank Bailey.]
TheThe book, First Born “Daddyman” is a true-life story of the author. In this book, the author, Frank Bailey recounts his tumultuous journey through life. The author takes the reader on a journey through his childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Frank was born into a strong Christian family and was raised with good morals. In adolescence, he started deviating from this sound upbringing and was overwhelmed by environmental forces. He started mingling with boys that were involved with street gangs. This was the beginning of his journey as a criminal. He joined the Marine Corps for a while and was dismissed on account of insubordination. Back on the streets, he sold drugs to survive while also engaging in armed robbery. Frank's story is a tale of drugs, gangsterism, womanizing and several jail terms. He eventually met and married his wife who helped keep him out of crime for some time. He took up decent jobs, but greed drove him back to the streets to continue selling drugs. Somehow, he was apprehended and prosecuted. He finally gave his life to Christ and prayed for another chance. He was at risk of being sentenced to a 30-year imprisonment. It would take only a miracle from God to save him.
I love the flow of the book from one chapter building up to the next. I also love the use of street language in the book. This gives the book a level of credibility as a major part of the story happens on the streets. I also admire Frank's wedded wife greatly. She is an embodiment of everything a good partner should be. She tolerated his excesses and encouraged him to change and be a better man. She even helped him meet his bail conditions when he was caught with drugs and possession of guns. I love the book because it has lessons to be learnt by the reader. One of these lessons is that getting involved in criminality destabilizes a person's life. Frank spends most of his adult life on the run or in jail. He can't find inner peace because he is into drug related crimes.
There is obviously no downside to this book. It is a book that is written for people to learn the dangers of engaging in criminal activities. The book highlights the impact the environment has on an individual. It also brings to the fore the importance of both parents staying together to raise a child. The author states that the absence of his father was a major factor that influenced his foray into gangsterism.
The book is an interesting book. It is professionally edited as I could not find any typos or grammatical errors in the course of reading the book. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I give this perfect rating because the book is didactic and can drive societal change.
This book is not recommended for people that are less than 18 years of age. This is because the book contains violence and drugs. I recommend the book for young adults because it would help them to make the right choice when enticed to engage in crimes and criminality.
