[Following is a volunteer review of "Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat" by R.F. Kristi.]
Inca, her siblings, and their mom, Missy, are enjoying a beautiful holiday on a beach in Sri Lanka. They learn that a valuable antique sword has been stolen from the main museum in Colombo. To solve this case, their neighbor, Solo, an internationally recognized detective, is invited from London by the director of the Colombo Museum. He operates with his detective dog, Terrance. Inca jumps on this new mystery determined to find the culprits and the loot. Inca and her team make new friends on the island, and they resolve to help solve the mystery. In the process of their investigation, Inca discovers an important clue that she hopes will be enough to identify the thief. Read Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi to find out if they completed their mission.
As usual, Inca, the head of the group, narrates the story playfully and entertainingly. I liked that the meanings of some big words were provided as soon as they were mentioned. This will help to build the vocabulary of the young readers for whom the book was written. The story also helps the audience to cultivate an inquisitive mind. It emphasizes friendship, teamwork, responsibility, helping one another, and doing what is right. All of these are important lessons that children should learn in their formative years.
There was nothing that I disliked about the book. The beautiful illustrations made the story seem like a movie. The book was easy to read, and I did not put it down until I finished it.
The author has done a great job in the series so far. Since I found only one minor error throughout the book, I conclude that the book was professionally edited. The writing style is perfect for children, and overall, the story is well-written. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend the book to children in elementary school. Due to its length, I do not think it is a suitable bedtime story. Younger kids may also enjoy the story if it is read to them by a guardian.
