LOGJAM of a Beauteous MIND is a three hundred and twelve pages memoir by Peter Simon Karp. It is divided into three parts. Mr. Karp gives us a detailed description of the journey his wife, Mona, underwent while battling cancer. He talks about them learning about the life-threatening disease, their reactions and that of their family members, the tests they had to do, the tough decisions they had to make, especially him being the caregiver. First they had to decide the hospital to go to, the doctors to do the procedures and the treatment they had to put Mona on for her survival. In this journey of being in and out of hospitals, he narrates of the struggles one Mona and him went through. They both had fears, especially that of Mona dying early. The quest of wanting to know the cause of the disease was another issue they went through. Yet, the biggest of them all was trying to find out if there's any hope left for her out there.

This is a story of finding hope even in the smallest of things we achieve. Mr. Karp creatively shares about Mona's life. The major events being their first meeting, wedding, her careers and religious beliefs. He talks of her phobias, handling loss of some of their close relatives. Mona's life seemed to be going on well. Things changed almost abruptly,, though. Coming home from a trip, she became sick suddenly, necessitating a visit to Dr. Fenster, their family doctor, for examination. They had no idea of what awaited them. Mr. Karp goes on to describe the events from that day onwards and creatively keeps going back to the memories he and his wife shared in the past.

The tone of the book naturally is supposed to be that of a somber mood because of the pain the disease comes with to both the caregivers and the patient, but
the reader will enjoy reading it as there are many happy moments throughout the book. What I loved most about the book is Mona's mind strength, which I got to know is the strongest weapon against cancer, other diseases and life's challenges in general. Mr. Karp's positive and caring attitude towards his sick wife was admirable. Like this time, he went from his warm bed with Mona and out into a snow-filled road. Find out why he did so and if he achieved his mission from the book. Reading about their early life was interesting. I wouldn't forget that one time, they were having a good time at the beach with his young wife. I got to learn that your environment can either make or break you. This one came from, Brittany, a cheeky old survivor who was Mona's roommate at some point. Read this insightful memoir to find out how this lady influenced Mona in her journey. I have come to appreciate the role the doctors play in the lives of their patient. Some doctors in this book did their job with a lot of professionalism and with love, yielding great results thereafter.

I rate LOGJAM of a Beauteous MIND four out of four stars, this is because I found less than ten typing errors throughout. The book seems to me professionally edited. Secondly, the book is enjoyable to the very end.

I would strongly recommend the book to all caregivers and patients battling terminal illnesses, especially those with cancer. The caregivers will learn from Mr. Karp greatly, for he did a good job at that. Secondly, terminally ill patients will get the much-needed hope from Mona. Knowing that someone else went through what they are facing will help them immensely. The book will add knowledge about cancer and what care-giving entails to all readers, and therefore appreciating caregivers even more.
