Winning the War on Cancer by Sylvie Beljanski is a thought-provoking and very interesting book about environmental science and cancer treatment. Sylvie Beljanski's father, Mirko Beljanski, was a scientist and researcher who discovered that certain plant extracts had incredible, positive effects on cancer. The innovative, natural remedies that he discovered and isolated were used by cancer patients with amazing results and yet conventional medical and scientific bodies went to enormous trouble to suppress and bury his life's work. In this book, Sylvie Beljanski describes in clear, easy-to-understand detail, the nontoxic natural extracts that her father discovered, and she describes exactly how and why they work to destroy cancer cells and how these extracts have been so successfully used by many cancer patients. The author entwines her personal story as she works to clear her father's name and bring recognition to his work, along with the scientific research that backs up his findings. This is a remarkable story about a daughter's tireless campaign to bring her father's life's work to fruition and to give access to his plant extracts to those who need them the most – cancer patients.

It is also an eye-opening account of the lengths that large corporations and government bodies go to in order to suppress any scientific medical or scientific findings that would impact negatively on their profits and interests. Information about proven natural remedies is suppressed and kept from the general public and so non-toxic alternatives to more toxic conventional treatments are kept from the people who need them the most. Sylvie Beljanski kept her promise to her father to clear his name, make sure that his products were made available, and continue his research. It is a testament to her bravery and resilience that she has been able to do all of this and help many people along the way.

This is a riveting and engrossing read, from the description of the raid on Miko Beljanski's laboratory and the confiscation of his research notes and equipment – to his apparent poisoning and death in 1997. It details how Beljanski's natural treatments extended the life of the then French President Francois Mitterand when he was secretly battling prostate cancer. It also describes how these natural extracts helped AIDs sufferers too. After her father's death, Sylvie Beljanski left her career as an attorney in New York to first clear her father's name in the European Court of Human Rights and then to carry on with his work on natural extracts to use in the treatment of cancer and other chronic diseases.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is an interesting, thought-provoking, well-written, and well-edited read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and found the author's story of her personal journey and the scientific journey of her father's plant extracts fascinating.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in natural science, complementary medicine, and natural and alternative cancer treatments.
