[Following is a volunteer review of "The White Harlequin" by Daphne Tzamali- Yakinthou.]
The book is about two best friends who go on an adventure in a magical land. They encounter mean creatures that want to stop them. These friends must do everything in their power to defeat the horrible creatures so that they can save the kingdom. The Kingdom of Dreams was invaded by the living-dead fairy. Since the invasion, the castle has turned into a cruel and hostile place. Will the white harlequin be able to defeat Mabia and her evil servants?
The concept of friendship has been wonderfully brought out in the book. Harlequin and donkeytaur are there for each other in every obstacle, and they help each other. They go through this adventure together. Donkeytaur does everything to save the white harlequin when he gets trapped in the dungeon. Donkeytaur does his best to keep the poppy flower alive because he knows how much this means to his dear friend.
One positive aspect I found with the book is the colorful images the author incorporates in the book. The images are bright in different colors, and the drawings of the creatures are all mesmerizing. These details will surely capture the attention of a young reader. I enjoyed the use of songs in the book. At different points, the white harlequin sings a song taught to him by his mother. By singing the song, his candle can shine brightly, and he can overcome any obstacles and dangers he faces.
I did not have any negative aspects about the books. The book was quite engaging and thrilling. The white harlequin and donkeytaur have to solve riddles and pass tests to save the kingdom.
I rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars. I believe the book has been exceptionally edited, as I did not notice any grammatical errors. The book has a total of ten chapters. In each chapter, the white harlequin’s adventures continue. The author gives vivid descriptions of the fairytale.
I recommend this book for children. It is a short magical story that can be read as a bedtime story. The White Harlequin by Daphne Tzamali- Yakinthou is a good read and has a captivating story that will have young readers intrigued and entertained.
