[Following is a volunteer review of "The First Time Father" by Thomas Alfie.]
The First Time Father by Alfie Thomas is a guide meant to help first time fathers navigate the pregnancy journey and becoming a parent.
The author talks about general aspects regarding pregnancy, how to support and help your partner and also about giving birth. At one point he even exposes his partner’s thoughts and feelings for you to understand better what your significant other is going through. He is not stopping here though, as he is talking about what to do after the baby is born, your role as a father, bonding with your newborn and tips and tricks on how to deal with tasks efficiently.
The guide displays a personal view from a male perspective about becoming a parent for the first time. The author used a first-person narrative, including a dialog in some places. Everything is explained in detail using short, uncomplicated sentences.
What I loved about this guide is that it contained a lot of useful information from not only his experience, but from his friends’ and medical staff, too. It was very well edited, no typos or grammatical errors were observed. Furthermore, the author is brutally honest, highlighting not only the good parts, but also the struggles, fears, frustrations, financial problems, stress and so on a new parent will experience. But again, he never forgets to remind the reader that the best is yet to come and that fatherhood is one of the best things a man can experience.
I found nothing to be disliked about this guide as the information is accurate and useful.
Since I enjoyed the guide and I did not find any errors, as far as I am concerned I am wholeheartedly rating this guide a 4 out of 4. The guide appears professionally edited.
As a woman who will experience pregnancy, I found this guide to be very accurate and I even learnt new things. It is best to be aware of both perspectives and Alfie Thomas made sure to write a piece that has the potential to prepare future parents for what is yet to come.
I recommend this guide to future and present fathers who need a hand regarding the fatherhood journey as I believe this guide covered all the questions one might have. The guide also specifies that these tips do not replace medical advice and if you are in need of urgent care, talk to your doctor.
