Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is the eighth book in The Inca Cat Detective Series. Inca describes herself as "a super-duper cat detective." She has a detective agency that has already been involved in solving some serious detective mysteries. Her agency, Inca & Company, is a detective team composed of Fromage, Cara, Monk, Charlotte, Terrance, and Polo. Inca is the leader.
This time, the team is headed to South Korea because their human mom, Missy, has been selected to be one of the judges for a French patisserie competition. Missy arranged for the whole family to join her on the trip. This is a good opportunity for the furry friends to explore the new country. What new opportunity will this detective team have to display their prowess in that field?
Even though I am an adult, I enjoyed reading this book. I appreciate the work that the author, R.F. Kristi, has done in making this book as informative, entertaining, and educational as it is. It is not just a pastime book. I admit I learned something from the background information given about the Korean Demilitarized Zone that separates North Korea and South Korea. Children can learn about teamwork, loyalty, and genuine friendship from this book.
The book is written in the form of a diary, and it is easy to follow along with the activities of each day. The illustrations are visually appealing and appropriate for kids. The language used is also simple. There are short sentences that can allow children to read without difficulty. Any parent would enjoy reading this as a bedtime story to their children.
The book is also full of suspense. I couldn’t put it down until I finished reading. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
I did not come across any grammar or spelling mistakes. The book does not contain any profanity or content that is inappropriate for young children. Also, there was nothing I did not like. I would, therefore, give the book a rating of four out of four stars.
I recommend this book to young readers, especially those between the ages of 6 and 10, as well as parents who are looking for great bedtime stories to share with their young ones. Also, if you have young relatives in the family, this would be a good gift for them. However, children less than 4 years old may not find it appealing because there are few illustrations.
