Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is a delightful children’s mystery book. The story explores the life of Inca, a Siberian detective cat. Inca runs the detective agency, Inca & Company. Together with her friends, Inca solves complex mysteries throughout England and France. When Inca and her family go to Sri Lanka for a vacation, they discover a valuable sword has been stolen from the Colombo Museum. Throughout the story, Inca encounters many friends along the way, from a turtle, to an elephant, to even a leopard. Together with Inca’s friends, they work hard to unlock the mystery of the stolen artifact.

I thought this was a lovely children’s story complete with a classic mystery plot and colorful characters. The illustrations were beautiful, and most of the pictures were descriptive of the current action. There are moments of suspense and excitement that will keep the reader engaged. Small clues are spread out through the story, and the savvy reader may just be able to solve the mystery before the end of the book.

I would recommend a few of the illustrations are updated so that they are more reflective of the current section of the book they are representing. For instance, there is one part where Inca is nervous. A picture accompanies this part of the book, but Inca looks moody and almost mad. It would be important to match up the facial expressions to the character’s emotions so that readers, especially children, have more of an understanding of the storyline.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book was exceptionally well edited as I did not discover any grammatical or spelling errors. I also appreciated the way the author brought the animal detectives to life and used creative sayings like, ‘she meowed’ instead of a general, ‘she said’.

I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading an exciting youth mystery book that travels the globe. Readers who enjoy colorful illustrations and adorable characters will find this book has it all.
