Review of Butterfly Awakens
Butterfly Awakens by Meg Nocero is a sensitive, thought-provoking account of the author's journey through grief and of her spiritual and personal growth. This beautiful memoir describes this American Italian attorney's struggles as she deals with the death of her mother. It is a book that details her transformation as she leaves a career spanning decades in which she has become increasingly unhappy, to concentrate on healing. She embarks on a spiritual pilgrimage, the Camino de Santiago in Spain, one of the most famous and most popular Christian pilgrimages in the world. She finishes her pilgrimage at the lighthouse at Cap Finisterre and the book ends on this uplifting note.
The writer's intense stress and depression as she grieves causes her to develop tinnitus, one of many challenges that she faces as she courageously struggles to lead a more meaningful life. She makes profound changes to achieve this and describes her journey to find healing and spiritual growth with honesty. Her inspirational mentors include Paulo Coelho and Oprah Winfrey, and she describes meeting Oprah on her motivational, transformative journey. She also meets Chris Martin from Coldplay along the way. Her metamorphosis results in her becoming an inspirational speaker, and a transformational coach. She has also founded a nonprofit that provides educational scholarships to young people in her community.
Meg Nocero's description of her pilgrimage on the Camino is inspiring. She overcomes many challenges, physical and mental, to continue on the pilgrimage. Her journey to fulfill her dreams and discover a life filled with joy and meaning is inspiring. This is a wonderful story of strength, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity. The author negotiates profound life changes and metamorphosis and her journey is an inspiration. When the author reaches the end of her Camino pilgrimage she finds both peace and self-acceptance. This metamorphosis is a testament to her strength of character and her willingness to tackle the challenges in her path and find meaning in life.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is a sensitive, thoughtful account of grief, and is both well-written and very well-edited. I enjoyed reading it and found the author's story of her journey and growth inspiring as she came to terms with her grief.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in personal growth and the grieving process. It does, however, contain a few instances of mild, borderline profanity and it also contains references throughout to the Christian faith, so should be avoided if this is uncomfortable.
