[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
There is nothing a worker would want more than to take a weeklong break, join up with his friends and go have fun throughout the break. In Man Mission by Eytan Uliel, four friends make this desire a reality.
The narrator of the book, who was not named, was an adventure lover. In law school, he became friends with Sam, and together they created the idea of the man mission. Each man mission was proposed to be a weeklong adventure to a different place each year. Each adventure would see them go through trial-like tasks with set rules and hierarchies among them. Although it was only an idea at first, this idea became a reality when the narrator and Sam went for their first-ever man mission on a trip to New Zealand. Eventually, their other friends, Alec and Daniel, joined them on these annual adventures. Daniel, who was the most responsible out of them all, was designated to be their lifeline. Alec, the most carefree, was the lowest among them while the narrator and Sam were co-founders. Join this group of friends on their fifteen-year tradition where they journey into the unknown each year. What sort of challenges would they face?
I enjoyed reading every page of this book. It is an informative, intriguing, and suspenseful novel all at the same time. The author has done a brilliant job writing this book. I loved how he told the story in simple words so as not to confuse the reader. The author shows his vast general knowledge as he gives us detailed descriptions of each destination the narrator and his friends visited. The author adds maps of each place that is visited to further inform the readers, so they understand all the author is trying to communicate.
What I loved most in this book was how the author exposed the mind of a man. He showed that men have fears too. They do not have everything under control and even if they do; they need some time for themselves to cool off. The author showed how the married men in the group all felt tired from the stress of family and work. At some point, they even envied Alec, the only bachelor among them. I also admire the friendship between four different individuals and how it could last over a long period.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. I did not discover any errors while reading. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is an informative book with an interesting plot.
I recommend this book to older readers who love adventure. Likewise, I would also recommend this to couples as it has some important marital lessons. I would not recommend it to junior readers, as it contains vulgar language and explicit scenes.
