Man Mission by Eytan Uliel follows the lives of four friends and their exciting adventures, focusing on the protagonist, his dreams, uncertainties, crippling sense of responsibility, and the struggles he faces with his realities. This story begins with the protagonist as a young man at what could be considered the start of his adult life. While adjusting to the demanding entry-level work life of the corporate world, he is reminded by an old friend, Sam, of their dream to go on an annual boys’ trip. This conversation leads to an impulsive plan to hike the Harper Pass Trail in New Zealand. What begins as a fun activity with barely any structure evolves into a yearly ritual filled with adventure, new experiences, and for some, an escape from a life far from what they planned.

Man mission was an exciting read filled with adventure, friendship, life challenges, and exciting new experiences. It also explores the cultures of various places around the world. In the book, the author emphasizes the emptiness and distress that comes with a life that is not fulfilling, the fear of change, and the daily struggle with choosing to make decisions based on rationality or the whims of the heart. The reader follows the protagonist's struggle with his inability to talk about his feelings and the guilt he feels for being unsatisfied with what he considers his predetermined role as a man.

What I loved the most about this book was how the characters dealt with life issues in realistically imperfect ways. I found it difficult to condemn any of the characters as they were all flawed in ways that encouraged the reader to understand their point of view. I also found it interesting that the protagonist was nameless throughout the book, making him seem much more relatable to readers. The writing style adopted by the author keeps the reader on their toes as he melded the exciting trips with the daily happenings of the characters’ lives.

I dislike nothing about this book and found no errors while reading. Due to these reasons, I will be rating it a 4 out of 4 stars. Man mission is a book I will be reading again.

I recommend Man mission to young and middle-aged adults who feel disappointed because their life may not be on the path they originally planned and have forgotten to make time for things that make them feel alive and childlike. I do not recommend it to audiences who have an issue with the use of profanity.
