Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the 7th book in R.F. Kristi’s “Inca Cat Detective Series.” However, it is important to note that this book can be read as a standalone novel too. The same can be said for all the books in this series. I read the 8th book before this one and loved them both!

Inca, a Siberian cat founded the detective agency known as Inca & Company, on which this series is based. In this book, Inca is excited to finally visit Sri Lanka and spend some time on the beach. But alas, her crime-solving skills are required elsewhere. As soon as she realizes she needs to solve the mystery of the stollen sword, Inca gathers her detective friends and gets to work. From elephant rides to ice cream on the beach, this book truly has it all!

I loved many things about this book. Firstly, the book has excellent illustrations which make it really easy for young learners to follow along with the story. The pictures are vivid and the colors are vibrant, which makes the novel look really inviting. In my experience, kids love bright colors and pretty pictures. For that reason alone, young learners would enjoy this book.

Another thing I love about this book is how simple the grammar is. Kristi makes use of simple, non-compound sentences that are easy for children to understand. At the same time, the author also uses slightly more complex vocabulary in certain places. This encourages young learners to feel intellectually stimulated and educated while ensuring simplicity. For this reason, I would recommend buying this book for children learning to read and write.

I also love childlike additions to the text which make it all the more appealing to kids. One of these is the way Inca refers to her human friends as her “humanoids.” It’s simple little touches such as this that draw readers in.

Another great thing about this book is the fact that there were no typos or errors of any sort. Therefore, I would conclude that this book was professionally edited. This is an especially important factor in children’s books. Young learners need to be exposed to content that is presented in correct grammar and spelling so they can emulate it.

Unsurprisingly, I rate this book a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. There is truly nothing I disliked about this book.

Lastly, I would recommend this book to children under 10 as this is the perfect age to absorb good grammar and vocabulary and improve one’s reading and speaking skills. The best thing about this book and others in this series is that they’re short enough for children to read themselves and to be read to children by parents or carers.

Inca is such an intelligent pet to be able to head an animal detective agency. I have read this book and I love the lessons it portrays for children too. Amazing review.

The illustrations are very important in children's books because because they are funny and paint a picture best, not mention captivating. So it is very nice to hear that the book excelled in that department and in much more. Wonderful review.

Personification is very much employed in children books. Animals are given human qualities. I love reading books like this because I keep imagining and contrasting it to the real life experiences. I would love to know how Inca and her detective friends resolved the mystery of the stollen sword.
