A Dream for Peace is a memoir written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, an activist and doctor, describing the majority of his life. The book's narration starts with the author's upbringing, childhood, and elementary education. Ghoulem was born in Algeria while it was still under French colonial rule. As a result, he was a victim of racism during his early school-days. Even after Ghoulem gets into college, these incidents do not stop, but rather worsen. Bothered by this issue, Ghoulem sets up groups in school to protect the rights of African students like himself. This officially marked the beginning of his activism.

After leaving university, Ghoulem doesn't stop his activism but rather goes on to advocate for his country's freedom. His unwavering dedication to this goal turned out to be essential for Algeria's independence. He then advanced to the position of special adviser to Houphouët-Boigny, the president of Côte d'Ivoire at the time, where he worked to settle disputes within Africa. If you would like to learn how Ghoulem managed to accomplish all of these feats, then you should read A Dream for Peace.

The author's writing style appealed to me; it was interesting and engrossing. Ghoulem doesn't write like he's just giving a report of events but writes as though he was conversing directly with the reader. The book stood out from other autobiographies because of its engaging writing style.

I liked that the author didn't hold back on any part of his life. The book includes all of his triumphs, accomplishments, negative encounters, mistakes, and even his love life. I had a genuine sense of familiarity with the author after reading this book. In addition to writing about his life, he includes pictures from various occasions and stages of his life, even his wedding, in the book. He also added photographs of important events in African history. Seeing visual representations of these events helped me enjoy the book more.

One thing I disliked was the use of advanced vocabulary in the book. The book featured a lot of uncommon words in its narration, and I often had to turn to a dictionary to find the meaning of such words. This made the book quite complex for the average person to understand. I believe this book has been professionally edited because I only came across a small number of typos while reading.

I'll give A Dream for Peace a rating of four out of four stars. My concern with the book's complicated language did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book, so I felt it unnecessary to deduct a star from my rating.

I'd recommend A Dream for Peace to readers who enjoy books about politics. Another group of people who would enjoy this book are those looking to learn about African history. I'd also recommend this book to activists as they can be inspired by the author's determination and resilience.

Dr. Berrah is an interesting man that most people can look up to. He was determined and committed to the course that the universe later rewarded him for it.
