Review of Surviving the Business of Healthcare
It's really sad that so many people are just one medical crisis away from going bankrupt. There is no denying the fact that receiving high-quality healthcare has become very expensive and nearly out of reach for the average person. Although the majority of people now turn to health insurance plans, some are still undecided about subscribing to them. How does one obtain high-quality, reasonably priced services in a world where access to healthcare has been reduced to a privilege rather than a right?
In her book, Surviving the "Business" of Healthcare, Barbara Galutia Regis PA-C educates readers about the best practices for accessing healthcare services. Barbara offers readers sound advice gleaned from over 20 years of experience working as a healthcare provider. She is also able to offer advice from a patient's perspective, as she was recently diagnosed with cancer. The book covers a wide range of topics, including choosing a primary care provider, selecting the best insurance plans, and cutting costs when purchasing medications. Barbara also goes on to mention the different types of medical specialists available, their roles, and when to consult them. I had previously thought of healthcare professionals as being only doctors and nurses, so I found this section to be especially enlightening.
Although the book was quite short, with only 117 pages, there was a lot of information packed into its pages. Barbara doesn't mince words when advising readers; she is rather precise and openly expresses her opinions. I appreciated the fact that she employed very simple words throughout her narration. Even those readers who are unfamiliar with medical terminology will find this book easily understandable. Anyone with little experience navigating the healthcare system would benefit greatly from reading this book.
I'm giving this book a rating of four out of four stars. There was no aspect of the book that I disliked or found unsatisfactory. I would have said that the book had been flawlessly edited if it weren't for two errors I discovered while reading it. However, I can say that the book has been professionally edited.
Surviving the "Business" of Healthcare is a book I'd recommend to people who want to learn more about how to choose the best healthcare options. This book should be read by anyone who is unsure of whether they should purchase health insurance or not, as well as determining which plan is best for them. Other medical professionals will also find this book useful because they can learn from Barbara's experiences.
