Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleishaur is a Nonfiction book about finance. There is a heavy emphasis on helping people plan for retirement. With famous quotes and a sprinkle of humor, this book is an informative and educational read. I think E. Alan Fleishaur made a topic that would make most people’s eyes glaze-over into something palatable.

“I know we’ve covered a lot of subjects in an abbreviated format, but I wanted to make this book easy to read and throw in a bit of humor as well.” (Fleishauer, 2022) An “abbreviated format” is a perfect way to describe the book. I would say that he has succeeded in this goal. It is a fast read; one could sit down and finish this book in an afternoon. My favorite parts were the sprinkles of humor mixed throughout the information, and the author’s awareness that the subject matter can seem boring to some.

One section of the book was a little hard to get through. There were three chapters about investments that felt a little too long, and would have been better summarized into two chapters. This was my least favorite part of the book. If Investments are your thing, you may disagree. If, like me, reading about investments doesn’t thrill you, all you have to do is power through these three chapters, and the rest of the book is a piece of cake.

The target demographic seems to be people in their 50s/60s, as there is a heavy emphasis on retirement and preparing oneself for it. Although, I think that young adults could learn a lot if they picked up this book. I did. As someone in their 20s, retirement was not even on my mind until I read Reconfigurement. And like me, most young adults probably don’t think that they need to worry about retirement right now, which I feel is something that could change by reading this book. Young adults should consider reading it. One of the many things I learned from reading Reconfigurement is that it is never too early to plan ahead.

Overall I found the book interesting, and just because I found a few chapters to be a grind doesn’t mean someone else will. Reconfigurement is full of tips, graphs, and resources that could help anyone who is leaving the workforce, entering the workforce, or wants to change jobs. This book is informative and worth a read. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend you read it, you might learn something, and get a chuckle along the way.

Retirement is something that requires planning from an early stage. The author did well to write this book. It would remind people like me to start now to plan my retirement. Thanks for a good review.
