Review of Pulse: Book One

[Following is a volunteer review of "Pulse: Book One" by B.A. Bellec.]
B. A. Bellec has brilliantly written Pulse: Book One. They successfully grasped my attention from the first moment I read and kept me on my toes until the end. Pulse is a story about Pulse—the most global corporation in the USA—which ruled the world. Everything seemed modern, high-tech, and advanced. You don’t have to manually drive your car or be concerned about cooking your meal. Not to mention the biggest music festival ever—PulseFest—which everyone enjoys and is excited to attend. Pulse produces lots of advanced and modern products that benefit humankind.
However, does it benefit the environment? Does it ensure prosperity for all organisms that occupy the Earth? Turns out, it’s not as spectacular as we thought. The corporation has its deep dark secrets. Natalie, Amber, Max, and the other Anti-P—a group of activists who are against Pulse—are working together to uncover their secrets. On the other side, E, Fasp, and Frank also found ominous facts about Pulse. Will they overthrow the most successful corporation on the planet and save millions of people? Or will they fail and humankind falls into extinction? We never know until the next book.
I love how the story relates to our lives. I can experience the terror, fear, and hopelessness, mixed with confusion and anger in every line of this book. I can picture it clearly in my head, and piqued my curiosity. I cannot wait to read the next book. The environment theme is strong, yet the sinister side of the business world is also presented in this book.
My favorite aspect of this book is almost all of the characters are morally gray. They are not overly positive, but they’re also not overly pessimistic. They are humans; they made mistakes, and they made wrong calculations, but they keep moving on and try to do what’s best. Because no one is too good or too bad. To me, it is an important aspect because the reader could relate to them. The reader could easily put themselves in each of the characters’ shoes and understand them more. I love it!
Even though the dialogues are presented differently in other books I’ve used to read, I did not have any difficulty reading them. The timestamps in every chapter are also somewhat confusing for me. Thankfully, the book is extremely well written, so I encounter no difficulty in following the plot even though sometimes, I forgot the timestamps. Other than that, I have no other issues other than wanting to know more about the monster.
Pulse: Book One is a beautifully written story. It draws people to read more merely to experience the thrill and adrenaline. The book was professionally edited and polished. I only just found minor punctuation errors. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to those who love and enjoy dystopian/utopian, sci-fi, thriller, and environmental stories. This book is also suitable for those who love monsters, technology, and science.
