Man Mission by Eytan Uliel tells the tale of four friends : the author, Sam, Alec, and Daniel, who make it a tradition to embark on a masculine week-long trip annually to a new destination. Along the voyage, they bond and deal with issues ranging from work, growth, family, and regrets while kayaking in Fiji; hiking in New Zealand; cycling in Japan, and ice climbing in Iceland.

Each chapter talks about the latest adventure, interjected with events happening in the lives of the main characters. The book starts each chapter with a map of the new destination and ends with the country, location, mode of transport, time taken , accommodation, and injuries sustained on that trip. The story is told over the expanse of fifteen years. They encounter drug dealers, wild animals, near-death experiences, and setbacks, but that does not deter them from carrying on with the mission. As the book unfolds, we see the main characters evolve from being struggling young men to being husbands, fathers, and successful businessmen in their various niches.

The story holds themes of family, sacrifices, friendship, and regret, all bundled up in rigorous yet amusing adventures. The author embodies humor in this thrilling book. The banter shared between these friends was hilarious. The traditions they established, such as awarding the pink bracelet to the most wimpy, eating an oversized steak at the end of each trip, and holding an annual sumo tournament, always made me laugh. One of the things I enjoyed the most about this book was the strong theme of friendship. The healthy relationship that blossomed among the four men was beautiful to read about. They undergo different struggles and changes in life, and each of them helps the other get through it. They offer lifelines to any one of them in need. They see the annual tradition as an escape from the monotony of their daily routines and a chance to unwind from the rigours of life.

The protagonist was often seen reflecting on the choices he had made in his life and questioned whether he made the best decision, yet he still moved forward. A good lesson to take from this book is that change is good. We should not stay unhappy in one place because of fear of the unknown; we should overcome it, surge forward, and find happiness regardless.

Another aspect of this book I liked were the diverse cultures it contained . From Japan, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, Fiji, Spain, Peru, and other places. Every new destination introduced me to new cuisines and fascinating cultures, which I found enlightening. It was obvious the author did his research, and I applaud him.

This book was insightful as it showed me the struggles men go through in our society. There was nothing to dislike in this book. The author's writing style was commendable. I did not encounter an error while reading, which shows that the book was amazingly well-edited and is deserving of a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I'd recommend this book to people who enjoy adventure and travel.

It's good to hear of these friendships remaining for all of these years. The adventures include faraway places and things you wouldn't never really consider.I know it's fiction, but good for them!

I loved reading about the positive and healthy relationships between these four men, as we do not see this enough in our society. That aspect along with the adventures and humour made this book a spectacular read.

Seems like the men had such amazing lives when together but could barely keep their home life together.
