Matthew Tysz amazes us with his first instalment in his We Are The Voulhire Series.

When innocent Galen Bray is presented with the chance to escape his life of struggle in the Lands of the Princes, he seizes it. Voulhire feels like a new world filled with wonderful opportunities and peace. But hidden away in the palace are the currents of a political power struggle that may soon swing in the king's enemies' favour, and a revenge plot that could destroy the very foundations of their world. The mage, Meldorath, may be weakened and imprisoned, but his men still carry out his plans. Strangely, the unsuspecting, traumatized town of Hillport seems to be at the centre of it all. At the fringes, the Riva Rohavi lie in wait, hoping to destroy the kingdom of Voulhire and lay waste to all its inhabitants. Unbeknownst to the people of this realm, there are other planes, and someone has just crossed over.

This novel is the perfect début for Matthew’s We Are The Voulhire Series. With this book, he showcases his talent for storytelling. Despite a deceptively simple cover, he delves into the complexities of a father-son relationship through the lenses of duty, inheritance, and family. Matthew’s fictional world revels in bloodshed, grief, power struggles, and enough betrayal to sour anyone’s trust. This book demonstrates Matthew's incredible ability to create and direct suspense from beginning to end. The pressure slowly mounts in Matthew’s book, pulling readers in until they can't look away. In one fluid stroke, he hints at a new form of magic, reveals an even more complex plot development in the next instalment, and introduces a new player. With excellent character development, vivid descriptions, jaw-dropping twists, and a hint of the modern, Matthew weaves an intricate and complex fantasy tale with the lives of each character, and readers will love every single second of it.

The error-free content, twists, suspense-filled plot, complex themes, perfect plot development, riveting writing, and mysterious hints make it impossible not to give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. There was absolutely nothing to hate about this book. The error-free content added another mark of quality to this book, making it a well-edited book.

I would recommend We Are The Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies to fellow fantasy fans. Readers should note that this book contains violence, profane words, and hints about paedophilia, which makes this book unsuitable for younger readers. Though this book starts slowly, its epic conclusion more than makes up for it.
