[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Do you ever dream of a perfect kingdom? Are you a fan of magic and fate? If so, Matthew Tysz’s We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies might just be your perfect next read!
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book in the We Are Voulhire series. The book follows the stories of people in the kingdom of Voulhire and describes their ways of life. The people are known for their great swordsmanship and contain a variety of cities that all build up into one kingdom. Although everything seems perfect from the outside, there are troubles that lie within and threaten to destroy all the people associated with the place.
I found this book to be a pleasing read. I found the descriptions of the scenes to be beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. When I closed my eyes, I could see the Voulhire kingdom in a picture-perfect view. As I read the story, I imagined myself walking through a modernized fairy tale. The dialect used throughout the story played a key role in bringing the story to life.
Additionally, this book felt easy to read. I often come across books with multiple narrators and it often makes them harder to read. However, I did not have this issue here. I love how the chapters were divided between first and third person narration because it made it easy to figure out who's point of view I was following at any given moment. This made the story particularly enjoyable to me. This was also an exceptionally well-edited book since I found no grammatical errors.
The only thing I disliked about the story was the lack of adventure. Most of the story felt like an introduction with tons of beautiful scenery. However, all these scenic visuals made it feel like there was a lack of action that would have made the story more entertaining. However, this is only a minor issue and didn't heavily impact my enjoyment of the book.
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was a fun read filled with magic and life. The descriptions easily brought the story to life and I loved following the adventures of the refuge Galen. I look forward to reading the sequel next. Due to all the reasons I mentioned above, I would rate this book a 4 out of 4.
I would recommend We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to people who are fans of fairy tales. I believe that people who are fans of fantasy and science fiction would love this book as well.
