Review of Winning the War on Cancer

[Following is a volunteer review of "Winning the War on Cancer" by Sylvie Beljanski.]
I had a friend a while ago who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was unlucky to discover it when the disease was at the dreaded fourth stage. After arduous treatment procedures mainly involving chemotherapy, she succumbed to the disease. The treatment period's physical and emotional toll on her and her loved ones was saddening. It is a fate I would not wish on my worst enemy.
In Winning the War On Cancer: The Epic Journey Towards a Natural Cure, author Sylvie Beljanski offers an erstwhile overlooked cancer treatment method. The use of natural plant extracts that the author champions is the brainchild of her late father and respected scientist, Mirko Beljanski. The author details her family's struggle in their quest to ensure that cancer patients have access to a natural cure.
I was delighted by the courage and tenacity the author and her father showed as they fought to benefit all cancer patients. Unfortunately, her father is arrested unfairly even after having cured the president of France. Despite having the foresight to tell that there will be even stiffer resistance by the pharmaceutical industry to natural means of treating cancer, Mirko Beljanski still entrusts his daughter to further his cause upon his death. The lives of millions of cancer patients transcend his life. This personally inspired me. I learned that a life lived for something that is bigger than oneself and one's desires is a life well lived.
There is excellent character development in the book. The author admits to detesting the considerable number of visitors looking for her father's treatment in her home when she is younger. She even hates her parents' chronic absenteeism as they are actively involved in research for the cure of cancer. Moreover, she lacks technical knowledge in medicine when her father bestows her with the responsibility of carrying on his life's work on his dying bed. Nevertheless, she chooses to be brave despite countless challenges, and by the time she gives a speech on her father's cure, she has morphed into a courageous and steadfast woman. I found this admirable and even more endearing.
There is not a lot to dislike in this book. The author has truly outdone herself. While some technical terms were hard to understand, they were necessary to pass the author's message. In addition, the book has been professionally edited. Consequently, I would award the book a rating of four out of four stars.
This book should serve as a call to action for all concerned. The eradication of cancer depends on all of us. Therefore, I would recommend this book to cancer patients, the relevant governmental bodies, and those involved in research for the cure of cancer.
