Review of When No One Else Believed
When No One Else Believed is a non-fictional work written by Ron Tripodo. In this book, the author narrates a troubling part of his life growing up with ADHD, his wife's illness, and his journey to build unwavering faith in God.
The author, Ron, begins this book by narrating part of his life growing up. He had ADHD when the disorder had not been known and a treatment developed; this impaired his learning and attention capabilities. He lived with this for a very long time; however, I was surprised at how he made a living for himself. Next, he moves on to the next part of the book, The Miracle, where he narrates how his wife, Patsy, caught a dangerous and rare illness, Herpes Simplex Encephalitis (HSE), which had a high mortality rate. He also gives readers a brief history of their love story, how they met, some of the problems they faced, and how they overcame them. Read this book to know if Patsy survives her illness. How does Ron's faith play into this?
I had a good time reading this book. I was amazed at the severity of Ron's faith, even in the most difficult of situations; as a Christian, this was something I admired. Tripodo tells this story from a first-person narrative, which actively engages readers at every turn as events unfold. They can feel the myriad of emotions running through the author's mind while writing the story. The love Patsy and Ron shared was admirable; it radiated a pure and selfless form that could be rare to find. I also felt sorry for Patsy at a point; it could not have been easy for her. The little picture inserts the author included added credibility and emotion to the story.
There was nothing I disliked about this story. Its plot, presentation, and narration were top-notch. My emotions were on a ride throughout the story; sometimes, I was glad, and other times I felt sorry for Ron, especially when his workers at home all thought he was going crazy. I only encountered a minor error while reading this piece.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for the positive aspects listed above. I appreciated that this author was not afraid to pinpoint his weaknesses; I believe this makes him strong. His faith was another thing I enjoyed; it was strong. I recommend this book to people interested in non-fiction and inspirational genres. People who want to develop their faith can also read this.
