[Following is a volunteer review of "Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure" by Catherine A. Pepe.]
Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a children's book that narrates the story of two little kids, Mary Grace and Donny.
Mary Grace and Donny are siblings. Mary Grace is ten years old, while Donny is five years old. Donny has a special condition. He has Down syndrome. They are living in Wichita with their parents, John and Jen Miller, but because both of their parents have jobs, the two siblings are most often left together. So at the age of ten, Mary Grace is already mature to look after her brother. But something changed their lives; their parents had to go to Africa to serve the people there. Their parents decided to leave their kids with their grandparents in California and this is where the adventure of these two kids would start.
Despite being a children's book, this book offers a lot of lessons that even adults could relate to. My favorite part of the book is that it shares a lot of information about people with Down syndrome. This book makes me more knowledgeable about people like Donny, not just those who have Down syndrome, but all the people with disabilities. This book also spreads positivity through the character of Donny. He is always optimistic. Despite his situation, he always thinks positively.
However, despite the good things I found in this book, I also found some minor errors. But these errors are not that frequent, and they didn't affect the flow of the story. Aside from these errors, I found no other factor that would affect the quality of the book. In fact, I enjoyed reading the whole book. Because of the aforementioned factors of the book, I give it four out of four stars.
This book is recommended to readers who love reading children's books. This book is also for readers who want to read about adventures.
