The Ping-Pong Champion of Chinatown by James Hanna is a very nice read. This book captures the life of Gertrude McDowell, a simple, beautiful, naive, and gullible young lady. Gertie hails from Turkey and also has her life filled with episodes of drama that seem to never end.

Gertie had always dreamed of having a career in the entertainment world, but sadly for her, she got that headshot once, which was in a high school production. The story also shows how Gertie got involved with "the nose" and how they started putting pictures of Gertie's feet on the internet. Gertie had lived a short life of glamour from the money she made off of pictures of her feet, but as time went on, her feet had to retire. The story travels to Gertie's life in the fashion world as well as her life as a wife in a failed marriage. After her "foot" encounter with the nose, Gertie decided it was time for her to use her knowledge of fashion to make a living for herself. The story shows how Gertie landed herself in a sweet but bitter experience with the Sugar Shack dress company, where she was innocently distributing hard drugs to customers all in the name of delivering dresses and receiving huge pay from every delivery she made. What's life without some twist? Gertie found an afterlife in prison after the sweet business she had with the dress company got uncovered. Gertie's life doesn't end there, as she comes across many more exciting experiences.

I love how well the author made use of Gertie's fictional adventure to paint relatable experiences. The author made this book more interesting by making use of the man vs. fate type of conflict, as all the problems Gertie faced were portrayed in the book as her fighting with her luck.

This book had no errors. There was also absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. I loved the choice of language and communication style of the author, which paved the way for me to make use of an imaginative style while reading the book, which felt as though I witnessed the happenings in the book and also purged out relatable emotions resulting from different experiences Gertie had.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, and I recommend The Ping Pong Champion to anyone who loves a good read filled with entertaining and relatable adventures.
