Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a retirement manual. It contains all the information you need to know about how to plan ahead and towards one's retirement. It also states the necessary information which is vital to ensure a smooth transition from one career to another after retirement. It covers various topics including social security benefits, 401(k), disability insurance, health insurance, among others. The target audience of this book is very clearly stated to be those approaching retirement and so the topics discussed mostly focus on that.
This book is written in a narrator-like version. The author writes as though he is having a rather lengthy conversation with a close friend. This is one of the positive aspects of the book. The author tries to create a familiarity with the reader who he hasn't met, using numbers and guesses which are most likely accurate due to his job as a financial advisor.
Another positive aspect of this book is that this book is filled with jokes to lighten the mood and distract a person from the gloom that comes with being told you're on the wrong side of planning. As I formerly mentioned, this book is written like a conversation between two friends and, following the same pattern, the author sandwiches jokes between the points he tries to make, in the same way, friends would joke around while having a serious conversation. This lightens the mood of the entire book, making it more enjoyable.
Another positive aspect of this book is that it is highly informative. This book provides knowledge of real-life financial situations and options which is most likely alien to someone reading this book for the first time, like me. Tips on budgeting, planning, and even insurance are provided. It is a hub for information and that is the basis of the book.
One negative aspect of this book is that, like the friend who keeps on speaking, the book goes on and on to the point where a reader might feel himself losing interest. The author states this himself and, in some portions of the book, advises the reader to skip a section if they want to. This is one of the parts where jokes come in handy. However, some people may not be able to keep going just because of the jokes alone.
I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Although there is the chance that one could lose interest, this is still an excellent book that is filled with loads of invaluable information that helps not only those approaching retirement, but also all income earners, as it contains valuable tips on budgeting and various insurance types.
I will recommend this book to all who are approaching retirement, all who do not know how to plan, and income earners in general.
