[Following is a volunteer review of "CrackerJack!" by Shea Rose.]
CrackerJack! by Shea Rose is a story showing the life of a woman living a lonely life and longs to find meaning and love in her life. The novel has sixteen thrilling chapters with an element of romance. The characters are well developed as the author gives details of their physical appearances. The scenes are also described in a way that enabled me to draw clear images of what the author was talking about. A woman’s need to be loved is depicted in this novel.
Cindy Jack is a single twenty-nine-year-old lady who lives a lonely life. She lacks close friends and even her siblings live far from her. She works as a stenographer and transcribes meetings of different health committees. Alonzo Prier is an attorney who heads the health department at the Office of the Attorney General. He is married to Shawn, and they have three children. He is a very handsome man, and every woman falls for him. Cindy likes Alonzo and is willing to do anything to make him fall for her. There is a scheme at a certain hospital in which over five million dollars have been expended in unclear ways. Alonzo is determined to make people involved in this face justice. Cindy thinks that she can help, but what can a stenographer offer on such a huge matter?
What I liked most about this book is that it is informative about issues in the health sector. The health meetings held in the story enable the reader to know health issues like the impact of alcohol. The plot has twists that are unpredictable. It also has an element of suspense. This made it very fascinating. I found the thoughts of the protagonist humorous sometimes. The editing is exceptional. I came across no errors as I was reading.
What I disliked most about the novel are the naïve things done by the protagonist. She tries to seduce a married man and rarely follows advice from her colleagues. These things annoyed me when I was reading. The lengths of chapters are unbalanced. Some chapters are too small while others are very long, like chapter twelve. These long chapters gave me a hard time to read. There is too much use of profane words by the narrator (the author) and characters.
A 4 out of 4 stars rating is suitable for this novel. I am rating it perfectly because simple words are used that were easy-to-understand. I recommend this story to all those who enjoy crime novels, especially those about fighting corruption in the public service sectors. It is not suitable for young audiences because of the profanity present in it.
