We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy story by Matthew Tysz. This book revolves around Galen, who was trying to revive his uncle's forge, and Lord Eldus, who was trying to rebuild Hillport. Galen was eight years old when the war of the princes began. Galen's rich uncle, who was executed, left him an estate and some gold at Magnum Caelum before dying.

King Wilhelm Arcolo of Voulhire rules over four towns, one of which is Hillport. This beautiful town lost its two rulers within a month. King Wilhelm decided to send Lord Eldus to take charge of rebuilding Hillport. The first Lord of Hillport was Lord Orlin, a pedophile. Because of his rotten image, Medorath, a captain turned magician, killed him and took over power. Because Meldorath continued to rule Hillport with magic, the city is rife with chaos and corruption. At the order of King Wilhelm, soldiers were sent to bring Meldorath to be tried. While some believed Meldorath was killed on his way to court for trial, others believed he was in hiding. Nobody knows where he is. The King of Voulhire sent Lord Eldus to Hillport to repair the damage caused by the two Lords that once ruled there. Did Galen succeed in reviving his uncle's forge? Did Eldus succeed in making Hillport a prosperous city? The rest of this book has an answer.

There are things I dislike about this book. At some point, Galen was referred to as "Herr Bary". King Willhelm was also called "Willie" at some point in this book. This name interchange of characters can be confusing. Also, the flow of the story in this book is not straight. This book was written in partitions that discussed Galen, Hillport, Midius Maido, Riva, Magnum Caelum, and Voulhire. The reader must be good at connecting dots to make meaning out of the short stories in this book.

There are things I like about this book. The author used the content of this book as an avenue to correct some societal ills. This book addresses workplace insults and violence while encouraging empathy. When Rowan and Galen visited the mining town in search of the white iron, Galen noticed how the foreman was shouting at three workers. The foreman reminded the laborers how easily replaceable they are and how their "subsidized home" can be taken away if they don't get the job done fast. Galen frowned at this and confronted the foreman. Galen's disposition made the foreman treat the laborers with care. Also, the first ruler of Hillport, Lord Orlis, was killed because it was believed he was a pedophile. This is another way the author uses to condemn the actions of pedophiles.

Furthermore, this book was exceptionally well edited. The author is very talented at describing scenarios and resolving complicated issues so they can make sense to the reader. I was impressed with how the author described the invasion of Hillport with the perfect words, making the reader imagine clearly what transpired. To me, it feels like the author was on some distant mountain, with a video recorder, capturing every event during the invasion as it happened and then inscribing it down on paper afterward. Considering the above, I am rating this book four out of four stars.

Finally, I recommend this book to scriptwriters. Studying the writing format of this book can help one develop great movie writing skills. This book will also be a good read for political office holders as the knowledge contained therein will be of help in learning to handle rebels in one's camp.

I've just started reading this book myself and I'm starting to get to grips with the characters but it seems a little complicated but I think it looks very interesting.

Inheriting his uncle's business seemed like a fresh start for Galen, until he uncovers the dark secrets lurking beneath Voulhire's serene surface.
