[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Man Mission is a 362- page book by Eytan Uliel which tells the story of the lives and struggles of four friends; Eytan, Sam, Alec, and Daniel. This book is divided into three sections of fifteen chapters across fifteen years. The book begins with an explanation of how this beautiful friendship began, how it evolved, and the beginnings of their various career paths. In college, the four friends all had a hunger for adventure and they began embarking on annual vacations together, doing various physically demanding activities at various locations in the world, like New Zealand and Japan among others. These vacations are what inspired the name Man Mission. Even though they experienced some misadventures in some places, it did not stop them from making these vacations a tradition. Although the vacation included only two friends at first, it embraced the other two eventually.
One positive aspect of this book is its underlying honesty about growth and the challenges that come with it. This book follows the lives of carefree young men, basking in the joys of youth, and how they evolved and matured into middle-aged men right in front of the reader. It explains how important making mistakes is to our growth and also teaches very vital values of courage and bravery.
Another positive aspect of this book is the representation of various cultures. As I formerly mentioned, the vacation of these friends takes them to various locations around the world and they learn different things at different places during their visits there. Just by reading this book, one can learn some things about various cultures in the world. This book is indeed a very informative read.
The author makes excellent use of flashbacks to tell the story. He switches between the past and presents effortlessly and perfectly without any confusion to the reader whatsoever. Also, the author drops little hints as to what adventures the characters would be experiencing in the form of maps. These little maps build the anticipation of the reader to see what kind of adventures the characters will see next on their travels.
A very well-edited book, Man Mission made me want to experience some of these adventures with my group of friends. While reading this book, I did not find anything negative about it. I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars not only because of the aforementioned positive aspects but also because, overall, this book is a captivating and thrilling novel that I believe anyone with a love for adventure would enjoy.
