The Magician's Secret by Charles Townsend is a thrilling adventure about a young man named Delvin, who gets caught up in the world of magic after his friend and mentor is mysteriously murdered. The story is instantly captivating as it starts off with the murder scene and then continues to take the reader on an unending adventure filled with secrets and twists that leave the reader at the edge of their seats.

We follow the journey of growth and self discovery by the protagonist Delvin. Upon the death of his friend and mentor Borlock, the traveling magician, Delvin inherits his possessions which are the tricks and charms that he uses threaten its existence as well. This exposes the secrets of the magicians, and it is one that that will kill for in order to keep hidden.

Delvin leaves his hometown seeking a better life and better opportunities for himself as a magician. He settles in a new town and establishes a reputation for himself as an up-and-coming magician in town. His tricks get him more than he bargained for when he gets caught up in a world of royal conspiracies and rescue missions. He teams up with unlikely companions to uncover deadly secrets about the reality of his chosen profession. Together with his companions, uncover plots to take down governments. Through everything that they go through, Delvin is able to use his skills and wits to get survive and get through difficult situations.

The book is a great read. The author manages to capture the attention of the reader from the first page and manages to keep us hooked on the story up to the last page. Every chapter of the book is an adventure, so we are constantly wanting to read more and more so that we can see where the characters end up.

Charlie Townsend is a wonderful writer. His writing style is fresh and modern, which makes following the story very easy. The book offers great insights into the world of performance magic without exposing too much. I genuinely enjoyed reading this book. I give it 4 out of 4 stars and would recommend it to young adults and people who enjoy a good thriller.

It's so sad what Delvin had to go through in this book. He went from one difficult situation to another. Yet he was not appreciated for his brave efforts. Great review.

Despite what life threw at Delvin, he found a way to survive. He was also a magician with passion and flare for his job. As for princess Jarla, I think she excels at using people to achieve her goals.
