Review of Cynthia and Dan
Cynthia, the protagonist of this story, works as a receptionist to conceal her duties as chief of security and bodyguard for Senator Mike McBride in Washington, DC. One afternoon, she got stuck in traffic on the way to work. She learned that an unidentified drone had landed on the lawn of the White House. This drone could be from terrorists, meaning the White House was under attack. She started a cyber war against the terrorists with the aid of her coworkers and two computer nerds whom they had employed. Cynthia's brother, Glenn Patterson, is a private investigator and happens to have access to some highly advanced equipment that they could utilize in this cyber war. Will they win this war and keep the United States safe?
As the real cybercrime action was happening in Cynthia and Dan, the author, Dorothy May Mercer, incorporated a love story. Cynthia met Sky Eastman during the White House attack. He was a wealthy man who seemed to have a lot of love and attention for her. The problem, however, is that she has a boyfriend named Dan MacIntyre. For his part, Dan seems not to be actively involved in Cynthia's life. However, being that she is currently in a relationship with Dan, she is torn between staying with him or staying with Sky Eastman. Whom would she choose between her two lovers? You will have to read this book to find out more about this story.
Cynthia and Dan by Dorothy May Mercer, a cyber war and love story, focuses on Cynthia, the head of a team in charge of maintaining her nation's security. It is 310 pages long and is split into 20 chapters. The book combines suspense and romance to excite readers. Those who enjoy reading stories with strong female protagonists will find this book intriguing.
There are some things I love about Cynthia and Dan. First, I learned about pregnancies, miscarriages, contraceptives, and the like. As a man, I have limited knowledge of these topics. Getting this knowledge from this book was, therefore, valuable to me. Second, the author did a fantastic job of blending romance and cybercrime. I was always on the edge of my seat because the author didn't make it easy for me to guess whether Sky was a bad guy or a good guy. The suspense was intense! Also, the fact that this book sheds light on how terrorism impacts people is another reason why I adore it. I found it impossible to put the book down because of the suspense, action, and romance it included. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
The only thing I did not like about the book was the weird love between Cynthia and Sky. It seems like the author didn't put much thought into the implication of having a love relationship with someone Cynthia met strangely. It would have been okay in a different case, but considering the main character's line of work, I think it was not ideal. However, this is the author's creation, and it wouldn't have been unique and spectacular if readers could predict the outcomes. So, it will not reduce the perfect rating this book deserves. Furthermore, the book was exceptionally well edited, as I encountered no errors while reading it.
I wouldn't recommend it to younger readers because of the sexual content. However, I recommend it to mature readers who love good romance books. I will also recommend it to those who enjoy reading terrorism and cyberwar books.
