A mystical book about the days of old, Apollo's Raven by Linnea Tanner tells the story of the young princess Catrina, who falls in love with the son of a Roman diplomat under dire circumstances. Catrina's father, King Amrem of Contiaci married a witch who planned to overthrow him. She hoped to become the queen of Contiaci and formulated a plan, requesting help from some other royal members of the Contiaci tribe who shared her interest. However, King Amrem found out about her plan and executed everyone involved in the treason, including his wife. Before she was beheaded, she placed a curse on the King. This curse, however, began manifesting when the Romans arrived. Marcellus is a Roman diplomat who escorts his father to Britannia to scout the land and convince the emperor to invade the isle. Marcellus's father, Lucius, hopes to become the consul to the emperor after having convinced him to invade Britannia; a land rich with human and mineral resources. In this book, find out how the beautiful princess Catrina was able to break the druidess's curse, thereby changing the destiny of her people.

From the moment I started reading this intriguing book, I didn't stop until I was done. The way the mysteries were unraveled shook me to my core. The book described the happening events, in such a way that it felt as if I was watching a movie. Every little detail was intricately described, and I so much commend this act. The few sexual moments in the book seriously piqued my imagination. The characters had strong principles, and I appreciate the essence of that. I was fascinated by the way the female characters stood out in this story. I appreciate history, so I felt drawn to read the book, and I never regretted it.

An aspect of this book that I found negative and unappealing was the fact the sexual moments were too intricately described and hence boring. The romance was sweet, but it was fast-forwarded. The characters hadn't even met, and they were already falling in love. Some aspects were too predictable, but I still commend the author for her work.

Despite all the negative aspects, I enjoyed reading the book and would love to read the second book in the series. It spun romance, history, and mysteries into a web that traps its readers in an imaginary portal, using flashbacks to tell tales of curses made years ago. The feminine strength was evident, with women considered men's equals. Sincerely, this is one of the most breathtaking historical fiction books I have come across, and I appreciate it for all it's worth.

I fell in love with the book at first glance. I'm a die-hard fan of Celtic myths and legends, and this book is just one of my many collections of Celtic myths. Furthermore, I found a few errors, but that doesn't change the fact that I am rating this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book was exciting, thrilling, and fascinating. I've gotten myself the second book in the series, and I expect you to do the same.

I recommend this book to lovers of history, romance, mystical creatures, and superstitions. But be warned; mature content, sex, and violence are the order of this book. If all this fascinates you, get yourself a copy and enjoy the ride.
