Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a carefully written book that provides everyone with the information needed to have a standard retirement plan. Just like the author said, this book is a manual for those who would like to reconfigure their lives and would love to change the status quo. The book was divided into thirteen chapters which cover different aspects of financial plans ranging from long-term insurance to health insurance and social security. The author explains each insurance’s benefits, risks, and importance. It explains explicitly, in a way that the reader is so clear on which plan to opt for, also adding why that plan is the best. The author added links for extra reading and research. The last chapter briefly explained side jobs and remote jobs, and several books related to that subject were added for proper understanding.

According to the author, the prompt to write this book came about when Alan was studying for the Retirement Income Certified Professional designation. He discovered that most Americans might need to work extra hours even after retirement to make ends meet if they don’t have a good retirement plan. New health research and innovations tend to make people live healthier and longer. However, Alan showed that longer life with no life plans will lead to miserable living.

The author tries to ease the reader’s tension by adding jokes here and there. One of the jokes the author added which is also a great life lesson is of a farmer who never approached any bad situations with complaints or grudges. Alan’s writing techniques and approach were indeed helpful. He highlighted each unique point and explained it all without putting much pressure on the reader. It is easy to understand, and every word is noteworthy.

Though for people who can’t relate, the jokes might not be enjoyable. I didn’t find it enjoyable because I couldn’t relate to it, but it didn’t change anything about the importance or meaning of the book. Also, due to the many points included in this book, I wish each sub-headings could be in bold print. An example was when the author was explaining annuity and the different types. I got confused at a point and had to go over it again.

This book is well edited. I give this book a 4 out of 4 stars as I couldn’t find any error in this book. Reconfigurement is a fictional book that is meant not only for the working class or those nearing their retirement age but also good for all age groups as the importance of planning cannot be underestimated. I recommend this book: Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer to adults between the age of 40 – 50 who needs to reconfigure their lives and who might want to help someone. I’d also recommend this book to youths who need this kind of information to know how to start planning their lives.
