[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Voulhire is a Kindom that enjoys both political and economic stability under the leadership of King Wilhem. So when given the chance to get out of the chaos he called home, Galen does not hesitate. His path in the new land leads him to an encounter with a rear magical stone from which he is to forge his living. All the while contributing to the small town that welcomed him with open arms. As he enjoys the change in environment, a storm is brooding down south in the coastal town of Hillport where an all powerful mage was accused of conducting vile experiments on people and put to prison. The former Lord of Hillport is quickly replaced by another who is so enthusiastic about the changes and healing he set out to undertake that he soon overlooks the might of Dalehei Meldorath. Matthew Tysz writes in the book We are Voulhire:A new arrival under Great Skies a story about betrayal, politics and magic. What happens when the powerful Meldorath decides to show the might of his power? Will Hillport survive yet another storm?
I relished turning the pages on this book just to unravel the story as it went. The story is simply captivating and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series. What I liked most about the book was the author's ability to bring out an emotional response from me as a reader. I felt everything from affection, to pity, to fear, hate, excitement and thrill.
I do not have any dislike for the book. I think it is a masterpiece in its own right even though the ending left me hungry for more.
The book was exceptionally well edited for I did not find a single error. Therefore, I rate the book at a good 4 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to young adults and even mature adults who enjoy a good thriller. If however, one is a strong believer, religion-wise, this book is not for you as I found some texts in the book that would offend one such individual.
