Looking Glass Friends. is the story of an incredible pair whose relationship may seem odd to most but to them is the key to happiness. It follows the lives of Ellie and Neil, both wandering through life, drained from their marriages and lack of enthusiasm for what life is offering. The novel by E. L. Neve (which is based on real love letters) is a beautiful love story which captivates the hardships and loneliness life can offer. It sees Neil and Ellie through their inevitable divorces and an unlikely friendship using the most unlikely forms of communication. Ellie sees Neil working and decides to buy him a book, which leads to countless email exchanges, love declarations and heartbreaking realities.

I personally adored the way we were able to see how Neil began to trust and admire Ellie - "And now there it was, a spark, a reason to live another day". It was beautifully written and so raw, the way we see them both slowly fall in love. It was very realistic, the way Ellie and Neil both deal with their own personal lives in order to be able to create a life together.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the way the other spouses were written, especially Fay. Although her character fit with the story, it was a lot harder to read as the readers may feel let down by the way that the relationship between her and her husband turns out.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to read about a love story which is not entirely fictional. This is not a fairytale story in which no one gets hurt and everyone lives happily ever after. It is an accurate depiction of true love, divorce, the effect these emotions have on a human being and how guilt can change a persons perspective on their own choices. There is no sugar coating how heartbreaking it can be to fall in love, especially when you thought you had already found it with someone else - " I was never in love, I know that now. I live a life, a faint shadow of affection"
