Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a book that, as the author claims, is all about planning ahead. While Americans — and people in general — are gradually starting to live longer, the need for a good retirement plan is mandatory. However, this book is not only about that; it's about creating your ideal financial plan, so you can enjoy your present life while securing your future.

The book opens with an introduction to the notion of "reconfigurement". This program has been designed by the author to help us plan for retirement, but it doesn't stop there. The writer argues that there is no age limit and that we can plan our lives at any time. As a financial advisor himself, he has more than enough experience to guide us in the exploration of our professional profile; our strengths and weaknesses, as well as the work best suited to our individual needs. Throughout the chapters, we familiarize ourselves with the steps involved in reconfiguring our lives for the better. Assessment tests, interesting stories, and easy examples are just some of the tools that Fleischauer uses to make this book more reader-friendly.

By the same token, the pleasant and conversational writing of the author helps us to understand difficult concepts which would otherwise be boring and tedious. Usually, when we think of a guide to financial issues and strategies, we are not thinking of an easygoing book or even an interesting one. But take my word for it that this is not the case here. I was surprised to see how easy it was to comprehend difficult notions such as "annuities", "social security", "qualified plans", and many others. To my understanding, the author didn't want to write another book filled with financial advice, but rather an amusing one-way conversation with his readers. He often makes jokes to lighten up the mood, and he uses many interjections to add an emotional impact to his sentences.

The only negative point of this book is that it addresses American citizens only. Of course, it wouldn't be possible to do otherwise. After all, every country has its own laws and lifestyle. As I am not an American myself, I cannot follow many of the stages and consultations suggested by Fleischauer. However, I still got a good idea of how to manage both my life and finances. I took some of the assessment tests he recommended, and I learned more about my personality strengths, and also which careers are right for me.

To sum up, I have to rate Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer 4 out of 4 stars. It was a very pleasant and informative book. I didn't find any grammatical errors, so I must say that it was exceptionally well edited. Whether financial matters confuse you or you want to figure out how the American economic system works, this book is for you. Even if you are not an American citizen, and even if concepts such as "investing" make you dizzy, just like me, I think this book will still be a valuable read for you.

The retirement process is not just about saving money, but also about identifying the lifestyle you want to live and the activities you want to pursue in retirement.
