[Following is a volunteer review of "E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a story about Sgt. Tom Turbulo and his wife, Kelly, as they embark on an investigative journey to prevent a life-threatening weapon set to destroy a whole country and could start a war. Tom and Kelly were newlyweds and in the midst of enjoying their honeymoon when Kelly accidentally discovered a suspicious site hidden behind a disguised store, and there she found what might be dubious operations inside. After barely escaping the guards who almost caught her, she successfully rid them in a thrilling chase. Together with her husband, and some other friends and connections, they set to investigate this operation that is bigger than what they suspect it to be.
Tom and Kelly had good chemistry that I liked. It is also worth noting that there were information and facts that were incorporated into the story that was hugely informative to the reader. It also made the story interesting. For example, in chapter 2, there was an interview with a character that is a highly respected professor who conveyed a lot about the loss of electricity, solar flares, and E.M.P. or electromagnetic pulse. The sources and research of these facts were listed at the end of the book, which I highly appreciate as I learned some new things. I also liked the espionage theme of the book; I think it made the whole story exciting.
However, while reading the story, I felt that the characters could have been more elaborated. I think there were a lot of characters, and that is fine, but I want to connect more with the protagonists. I also didn’t feel the villain was frightening or someone to be that big of a threat. I didn’t feel his ominous presence, though that may be because the novel is light, and I think that is understandable. Overall, this doesn’t hinder me to enjoy the story, but I wish it could be longer.
I did not find any typographical errors and it is well edited. I gave it a rate of 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading this. I was entertained and the story is an easy read and fast-paced.
If you want to read a spy story and romance that is light and got some action in its pages, then I recommend this book because you will enjoy this. It is plot-driven and you will easily wade into the story.
