[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
Strength and agility characterize youthful age, but we characterize old age as a time in one’s life when our soaring strength has dwindled. There is also a widely accepted belief that riches are grown. The best moments for growing wealth are those times when our energy is at its peak. However, what do we do when we discover or think about a time when the strength will grow dim? How do we ensure financial freedom even at old age? Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer answers these questions. The tide is changing. Many are living in a chasm with no recourse to reality. It’s time to live in the moment and discover that a lot has changed. Life expectancy has increased as discoveries and science make life longer. The author believes the reader needs to reconfigure their way of thinking to avoid financial trouble in the future.
This book is divided into thirteen chapters and a conclusion. In the first chapter, the author introduced the concept behind the book, which is retirement planning that can help the reader accumulate and prudently manage their assets so that they can stop at 65. However, the author warned the reader that the process will be challenging but will also reward them. In Chapter Two, the author discussed income as a vital aspect of successful retirement savings. The book covers career assessment, choosing a retirement plan, life insurance as a tool worth leveraging, the social security system, and a lot of other things that the reader can leverage towards building a successful career and a life after service.
The author used a storytelling approach to drive home his point. He also used this approach to introduce relevance and to assist the reader in making the most of this book. The stories are relatable and I love them. The reader could envision him or herself as the principal character in the story. The author also referenced and quoted scholars, politicians, and popular thoughts while writing the book. I believe this will assist the reader in finding a connection between the words on the pages of this book and the great ideas and beliefs held by scholars and thinkers. I also love this. The language of writing is simple. Using charts and graphics is also commendable. The author’s passion and reason for starting out on this project is also a humanitarian conviction and worth recognizing. The book made planning for retirement easy. The importance of retirement plans, how to embark on retirement plans, and how to leverage existing government regulations to secure a stress-free retirement are all contained here. Therefore, the book is a must-read.
Although this book is spectacular, I still have my reservations. I did not like the manner in which the table of contents was presented. There was no specificity. Furthermore, the author did not title the chapters, nor did he add subtitles. I feel these are important elements that make a book easy to navigate. It also makes it difficult for the reader to make an excerpt of a subtitle for a manifesto. However, the book’s content and message were not affected by this.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because the author did a good job. The author discussed retirement in detail. There was a chronological progression from the unknown to the known. The language of writing was also relatable and professional. I feel this is a book one must read. On this note, I recommend this book to anyone who is working. Are you earning an income? You will need to save for the rainy days. A rainy day could be an ailment; it could be anything. However, life insurance is the best safeguard. Planning for retirement is the best leap. Reconfigure your thoughts today by reading this book.
