[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book of the series "We are Voulhire" written by Matthew Tysz. Galen Bray is from the land of Princes, which is at war. He escapes death and is rescued to Voulhire. He is rescued to go and inherit his uncle's business, whom he has never even met. In Voulhire he learns of this new place where he comes into contact with a whole new knowledge about magic, power struggle's (conflicts) and other mysteries involved. He has a very curious personality which.... What will he do? Will he be low-key, or will he choose to be involved in the conflicts? Where will his curiosity lead him? To answer this and more questions, consider reading this book.
I loved the way the book was organized with headings. The map at the beginning was very useful in giving an overview of Voulhire. The explained terms at the end of the book were also very helpful as I could refer the words used in Voulhire that I could not otherwise know the meaning. The book had very many characters, but they surprisingly made the book more interesting. In many cases, we expect a book with many characters to be confusing to the reader, but it was not the case with this book. Every character was unique, and the author developed the characters in a way that one character helped in making the others' character traits more vivid.
There was vivid description of violence, which may reduce peoples preference of the book. However, this did not affect me the least but increased my liking for the book as I prefer such genres. There was hence nothing I hated about the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book greatly satisfied my expectations and aroused my interest for other books in this series. The book was also exceptionally well edited, as I found no errors. The book was written in a way that the storyline is clear and suspense is not reduced in any form, thus need for a perfect score.
The book has no religious boundaries, thus suitable for all. I highly recommend this book to readers who love fantasy novels involving magic and adventures. The book is suited to mature teens and adults who are not negatively affected by described violence. The book is also very suitable to readers who love books with mysteries.
